Beauty and Wellness: Bridging The Gap

It is widely accepted that beauty can significantly boost confidence.  In an effort to maintain a youthful and attractive appearance, we often invest significant time and resources into our appearance. However, it is important to recognize that beauty and wellness are closely interconnected.  Our outer appearance is often a reflection of our overall health and well-being.  By prioritizing healthy lifestyle choices, we can not only enhance our appearance but improve our physical and emotional well-being. 

In order to maintain healthy hair, skin, and nails, it is important to practice proper cleaning and grooming techniques.  This can help prevent fungi on the scalp s such as pityriasis steatoides, Malassezia, and tinea (ringworms).  In addition, it is essential to protect our hands and nails from harsh chemicals and detergents and take precautions.   This prevents a condition called onychorrhexis which is the drying of the nail plate from overexposure to harsh chemicals which causes our nails to become brittle and split.   We must be mindful when using harsh chemical agents and detergents to wear the appropriate PPE such as gloves that protect our nails and skin.

Similarly, taking care of our skin is also crucial for both appearance and health.  The skin serves as a protective barrier, guarding against external threats and housing melanin to protect against UV light.  Neglecting skin care can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and other skin issues.   “If we are constantly adding makeup to our skin to cover hyperpigmentation or open comedones, or falling asleep with a full face of makeup, that can lead to issues for your skin.  Makeup can clog pores causing them to expand and it encourages bacteria growth inside of your pores which causes breakouts. Therefore, A consistent skincare routine can help promote healthy skin and prevent future breakouts”, says beauty expert Contressa Oliver. 

 

To maintain your overall health and beauty, it is important to prioritize healthy lifestyle habits, such as drinking enough water, getting sufficient rest, and maintaining a healthy diet.  Proper makeup removal, nail, and hair care routines can also contribute to a healthy, more radiant appearance.  “Remember our outer appearance is a reflection of our overall health.  We must invest in our inside in order to see the beautiful reflection on the outside.”
